Kris was born while her parents were traveling through Ukraine — a traveler before she could walk. She grew up in Moldova, dreaming of what lay beyond the border.

At 14, she crossed it alone. Eight hours by bus to Ukraine, her first solo journey. She remembers the fear in her stomach before leaving — and the feeling that replaced it once she arrived: freedom. The kind you only earn when you've done it yourself.

That feeling shaped everything that came next. Four countries lived in. Over forty explored — from Sri Lanka and Mongolia to Japan and the Pacific. Often alone. Sometimes in places most women are told to avoid. 

She learned the hard way what guidebooks don't tell you: which street to skip after dark, which "tourist tip" is a scam, which smile you can trust. And every time things could have gone wrong, the same thing saved her — a local. A friend. Someone on the ground who actually knew.

The morning everything could have fallen apart

One Sunday in Guadeloupe, Kris was supposed to catch a bus to the port and board a boat to Martinique. The bus never came. Her whole trip was about to collapse.

On the empty road, she spotted a woman out for a run — sweaty, exhausted, mid-workout. Kris stopped her and asked for help. Without hesitation, the woman drove her all the way to the port. Kris caught the boat. The trip was saved.

That stranger is now one of her closest contacts in Guadeloupe — and a friend.
